Bluetooth Headsets: Not Just for the Office

Jose just loves his gadgets. As a Senior Network Engineer at Teneros, Inc., a high tech start-up company in Silicon Valley, he ought to. Unlike many Plantronics® enthusiasts, he does not spend a lot of time on the phone—but still his headset is one of the most used pieces of equipment in his arsenal.

Streaming without Wires

Jose is a recent convert to the Plantronics Discovery® 655 Bluetooth Headset. “This is actually my first Bluetooth headset,” he remarks. “Before I was totally against them because they were so big and bulky. Not only that, but I don’t think my ears are well suited for a headset—other headsets would just keep falling off. This one feels really comfortable, and people hardly even notice it’s there.”

So why the change of heart? Jose says it’s because he finds the Discovery 655 headset so useful. During his commute on the train every morning and evening, he uses it to stream online content such as radio shows from his Pocket PC device. He even uses it to listen to MP3s and to watch TV programs – a box on his cable system lets him watch TV on his handheld anywhere there is an internet connection.

“I was streaming content during my commute before, but not as much as I do now. It’s just so much easier to walk around with the phone in my pocket and the wireless headset in my ear. It’s convenient for listening to the news, for example. And if a call happens to come in, my program is interrupted, and I just take the call.”

The Perfect Complement to Your Handheld

Now that he has his Bluetooth headset, Jose finds that he uses his phone more often. As his Pocket PC proves not to be the most convenient design for phone calls, the wireless capabilities of the Discovery 655 enable him to make more calls during his commute. “My PDA is not comfortable to hold up to my ear for a long call,” says Jose. “The Bluetooth headset works much better for me because I can simultaneously look at the screen and talk. I can even look up contacts or compose an e-mail while I’m on the phone.”

Using a Voice Command application he has installed on his Pocket PC, Jose is able to initiate phone calls, check his appointments, and even play music, all through a voice command on his Bluetooth headset. And Digital Signal Processing (DSP) also lets him hear – and be heard by – his callers clearly, even though he may be surrounded by people talking.

With up to 10 hours of talk time for the Discovery 655, Jose loves the long battery life that it provides. Though he streams content for at least a couple of hours a day on his handheld, he can go for a few days without charging. And, when he does get around to charging it, he uses its slick USB adapter to plug it into his laptop

Tuning Out – To Tunes

When asked what he likes best about his headset, Jose mentions that he can be in a location where he really doesn’t want to be, and still have entertainment. “You can be walking through the mall and be bored out of your mind, and you could be listening to your favorite songs, or to a 49er game through the headset as you’re walking along,” he said. “I even use it when I’m riding my bike at lunch – to listen to the news, or to music, or whatever.”

Since Jose has found the entertainment value in the Discovery 655 headset,he uses it every day. Not only does he make the most of his Pocket PC device, he also has found new and interesting ways to make his headset a constant fixture on his ear. “I never thought I’d say it, but I absolutely love what this product has done for me. Bluetooth technology tied with a sleek design, it’s something I don’t leave home without. It’s great for a distraction from where you are at the moment.” So take a tip from Jose, wireless freedom can help you stay connected and make the daily grind just a little more exciting.
