She sashays into the office on Monday mornings, a bundle of energy armed with a vanilla latte. She sports her favorite white blouse, black and white pinstriped skirt, and black patent Manolo Blahnick pumps. She’s 23-year old Devan Fearman, a one-woman powerhouse of smarts and style, and she finishes her look with her dusty pink Plantronics Explorer 330 Bluetooth® headset.
Devan is always hip to the latest trends. In fact, it’s her job. As account coordinator for SHIFT Communications, she’s responsible for helping her clients engage in trends she helps to identify. “And I’m always on the phone!” she says. “My mobile phone is imperative for my work in PR. I have to be easily accessible; all my clients and the editors I work with have my cell phone number.”

Accessorizing is important to Devan in pulling together her look, a classic style with a few twists thrown in for a trendy flair. “Right now, I’m on the hunt for the perfect aviators,” she laughs. “I’m also really into bangles these days, in gold and darker colors.” And her Explorer headset is her perfect accessory. “I’m definitely a girly girl, and pink is an instant signifier,” she states. “Plus, I always want to match, and my pink Explorer matches my pink cell phone and my pink iPod.”

I especially love the click over call waiting - I just hit the button on the headset without even touching the phone.” She charges it every day, is impressed with the battery life and talk time. “It never dies on me: I really depend on it.”
Devan also found she can depend on her Explorer’s sound quality anywhere. “The noisiest place I’ve ever used it was while I was shopping downtown in Union Square! It’s really loud, between the cable cars and taxis and thousands of people rustling and bustling in the street. A client called, and we heard each other perfectly!”

Devan loves the fit and comfort of her Explorer. “The nice thing about it is that it seems more petite, not so bulky. I’ve used some headsets that hurt my ears when I took them off, but I don’t even feel this one on! And it never interferes with my earrings - I always wear a diamond stud with some kind of long dangly type of earring, and never have any problems.”
Multitasking in Style
Devan doesn’t have a landline at home, a trend followed by many other young professionals. So her cell phone is her link not just to her clients, but also to her family and friends “After working a 9-10 hour day, I want to go home, relax, and keep in touch with my family and friends, but I also need to do laundry and make dinner. I can keep in touch and get things done at the same time.”
