MDA-200 Troubleshooting: Windows 7 settings affect audio performance for hard phone connection

Question

There are various audio issues present (low listening or speaking volume and/or side tone) with the hard phone connection when using the MDA-200.  What could be the problem?

Answer

There are multiple places to adjust audio for the hard phone connection which include the speaker/mic dials on the bottom of the unit, the phone itself, and the Windows PC sound settings for the Plantronics USB headset.  Changing the PC audio settings for the Plantronics USB headset will have an affect on the audio performance of the hard phone connected to the MDA-200.  The Levels tab on the Speaker Properties window for the Plantronics USB device in Windows 7 is where you can adjust the speaker and side tone settings. The Levels tab on the Transmit Properties window is where you can change the transmit levels.

To access the Speaker Properties window:
  1. Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray, and then click Playback devices. The Sound window appears.
  2. Right-click the Plantronics device, and then click Properties. The Speaker Properties window appears.
  3. Click the Levels tab to make the desired adjustments.
To access the Transmit Properties window:
  1. If you already have the Sound window open, click the Recording tab. If you do not have the window open, right-click the speaker icon in your system tray, and then click Recording devices. The Sound window appears.
  2. Right-click the Plantronics device, and then click Properties. The Speaker Properties window appears.
  3. Click the Levels tab to make the desired adjustments.
