Your Plantronics Bluetooth® headset battery
Your Plantronics Bluetooth headset has a single lithium ion cell inside (we’ll refer to it as the battery) to power wireless transmission, audio functions, indicator lights, etc. This battery must be recharged after a certain amount of headset usage.
WHY LITHIUM ION?
Lithium ion batteries have a high energy density. That means they are smaller and lighter for the same charge capacity as other battery technologies. These are important characteristics for maintaining comfort in a miniature Bluetooth headset. Lithium batteries have a longer shelf and service life than other types of rechargeable batteries, allowing many cycles of discharge/recharge.
TALK TIME AND STANDBY TIME
Talk time is approximately the amount of time that you can maintain a conversation over your headset before the battery depletes. Standby time is the amount of time your headset is available – occasionally letting the host device know of its presence – before the battery is depleted. Any individual’s use is a mix of these two activities, in a conversation or standing by, so times may vary.
The charging circuitry associated with your Bluetooth headset charges the battery quickly to 80% capacity, then more slowly until full to extend battery life. Each complete charge is a cycle. The capacity of your battery will slowly diminish over repeated charge cycles, but maintain at least 75% of original capacity after xxx charge cycles. You can recharge your battery whenever you want –partial charge cycles are additive. For example, four partial charge cycles of 25% of battery capacity, are equivalent to one complete charge cycle. When recharging from a host USB port, make sure the host device, for example a laptop computer, is turned on.
TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST TALK TIME FROM HEADSETS THAT INCLUDE A CHARGING CASE
Let’s say that your Bluetooth headset battery capacity is good for 5 hours of talk time for your usage pattern and your charge case battery has twice the capacity of your headset battery (10 hours of talk time). You can maximize your talk time, even approach up to 15 hours of total talk time per day by following this strategy. Every time you finish a conversation, return your headset to the charging case. In this manner, you continue topping up the headset battery while you are drawing down the charging case battery, adding case battery capacity to that of the headset. At the end of the day, connect the wall charger to the charging case with the headset inside, to start the next day with full capacity for both headset and charging case batteries. With this strategy you might eliminate the need to carry the wall charger during the day.
MAXIMIZING BATTERY LIFE SPAN
Your headset is designed to operate over a temperature range of x to y degrees F (a to b degrees C). Battery damage may result if your headset is exposed to temperatures higher than this. Charging or even storing your battery at these temperatures can permanently reduce the capacity of your battery at full charge. Cold extremes should also be avoided, although battery performance usually recovers when they are returned from cold to normal temperatures.
